Juniper in Wellesley Serves Up Our Fav Mediterranean Food
A short train ride away (or an even quicker drive) is Juniper restaurant in Wellesley. We know Wellesley probably isn't your top dinner destination - but it should be! Meredith and I, the JUGsBos team now that Suz is contributing from LA, recently caught the commuter rail to the 'burbs to check out this local gem. We were greeted by the friendliest staff of all time, then we immediately started drooling as soon as we got the menus. Here's what you need to know:
WHAT TO DRINK
While its always tempting to stick with wine, the cocktails at Juniper are not to be missed. My favorite was the Icarus Lane - Cazadores Reposado Tequila, spicy jalapeño grapefruit syrup, lime, candied grapefruit. It was perfectly tart and sweet. It tasted a cross between a classic greyhound and a jalapeño margarita.
Those that don't like spice (cough, Meredith, cough) will enjoy the Barbarella - Square One Cucumber Vodka, coriander honey + bubbles.
WHAT TO EAT
For appetizers we went all out. Charred octopus, skordalia and muhummara dips, and the ultimate appetizer of all time: seared manchego cheese (pictured above). The dish was like a super classy version of mozzarella sticks, garnished with crushed pistachios, honey, and apple butter. This dish alone is worth the trip out to Wellesley. It is a must-try for all cheese lovers.
For mains, I got the chicken tagine and Meredith ordered the grilled boneless ribeye. We were already so full from appetizers that we struggled when it came to entres, but we couldn't put down our forks; both dishes were fantastic. I mean, the ribeye comes with charred brie for god's sake. Fantastic all around.
WHAT A TREAT!
Just before we were about to literally roll out of the restaurant, the staff surprised us with dessert. And yeah, obvi we couldn't pass it up. DO NOT LEAVE JUNIPER WITHOUT ORDERING THE DATE CAKE.
