Free Workouts in Boston, Spring 2019

Spring is here. The weather is finally getting bearable and summer is hopefully just around the corner. If you’re like us, you’re motivated to once again commit to some spring cleaning. While your wardrobe will appreciate it, don’t forget to refresh your fitness routine. Why not mix it up? Luckily for you Boston is home to TONS of different fitness options, and now is a great time to check them out. Read below for five free workout options to check out this month. You never know, you may just find your new favorite routine.

1. Run Harvard Stadium

Ever wanted to move beyond the stair master? Now’s your chance. The November Project hosts a free stadium running workout at Harvard Stadium every Wednesday at 5:30am and 6:30am (rain or shine). The group provides different course options ranging from 35 minutes sets to full runs over all 1147 seats in the stadium. Go the last Wednesday of the month to take part in Personal Record (PR) day, when the group races to see how much faster and farther they’re able to get after training all month on the stairs.   

When: Wednesdays 5:30am and 6:30am (rain or shine)

2. Try Tai Chi

Always wondered about Tai Chi, but don’t know where to start? Try a free introductory class with Brookline Tai Chi to learn more about this exercise that embraces the mind, body and spirit. This class will introduce you to the Tai Chi processes of Quiet Standing, Rooting, Pulsing, and Mindful Movement.

When: Thursdays 10:30am

3. Hit Something

Interested in throwing some punches? Try out boxing with a free hour-long intro class at The Ring. In this class you'll learn fundamental boxing technique, test your skills on the heavy bag, and get a taste of a pro boxer's conditioning routine. Afterwards you'll get a Free Week of access to try out The Ring's classes, meet the trainers, and use the facilities.

4. Hit the Trail

Ready to the hit the trails and get a little dirty? Gear up for the Wild At Heart event hosted by the Essex County Trail Association and Athleta, which includes a guided 4 mile run and trail run workshop for beginners & runners of all levels who want to learn how to prep for the trails. This run will be led by some awesome female trail experts who are happy to help you learn the basics.

When: Sunday, May 19, 8-11am

5. Find Inner Peace

Get in a workout and try meditation with yoga and guided mediation at the Hyatt Wednesdays from 5:45-6:45pm. The yoga class is accessible to all levels, with a power class on the first Wednesday of every month. Stretch, move, breathe and get centered. Yoga is followed by guided meditation where you will learn and master techniques including breathing, visualization, nidra, and mantra. Just bring your own mat.  

When: Wednesdays from 5:45-6:45 pm
